ABOUT 1843:

1843magazine.com is the online version of 1843, the culture and lifestyle magazine from The Economist. The website offers not only content from the print edition, trickled out over the course of its shelf-life, but also The Daily, which carries blog posts from the team – quickfire observations, reviews and opinions that allow readers to eavesdrop on the conversation in the office. Access is entirely free.

ABOUT 1843 MAGAZINE:

Q. What is 1843?

1843 is a bi-monthly culture and lifestyle magazine from The Economist. It covers the arts, style, food, wine, cars, travel and anything else under the sun, as long as it’s interesting. It shares The Economist’s fondness for crisp prose, dry wit and free thinking. But rather than covering politics and economics, it is about life in general and making the most of your time off.

We mix our Economist writers with leading authors such as A.S. Byatt, Julian Barnes, Douglas Coupland and William Boyd. We talk to interesting people from Philip Pullman to Zaha Hadid. We have regular columns from Tim Atkin on wine lists, with photography and illustration to match the elegance of the writing.
